For the month of : May
In Reading Workshop, we are gathering information on Forces of Nature. In reading groups we are exploring avalanches, torandoes, hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes, wild weather and volcanoes. We will create a project including 2 summaries, 2 other text features such as a graph, map, illustration or chart, and also incorporate 2 fun facts.
In Math Workshop, we are learning how to find the area and perimeter of different shapes. We are using what we know about multiplication to find area. The formula that we use is Length x Width = Area.
In Writing Workshop, we are currently using a variety of nonfiction texts to gather information about Forces of Nature. We will organize our information into a graphic organizer with main ideas and details in order to write a summary. We will also use titles, captions and headings in our final project to show what we have learned.
In Science, we are studying different types of rocks and minerals. On our field trip to Roaring Brook, we saw many different rocks that are here in our Connecticut forests. We will be conducting different tests in order to identify different minerals.
In Social Studies, we are learning about our state of Connecticut. We are connecting what we learned about Colonial Connecticut to what Connecticut is like today. Many state symbols will be studied as well.
Our May Spelling Words are a review of our entire word wall list. Cummulative lists for both our regular spelling words and challenge words were sent home to study. In June, we will be tested on all of the words we learned this year.
